Commercial & Multi-Family Recycling

COMMERCIAL & MULTI-FAMILY RECYCLING NOW AVAILABLE IN WW

Sustainable Walla Walla in partnership with the Sustainable Living Center and Basin Disposal, Inc is pleased to announce a new curbside recycling program for businesses, churches, agencies, and multi-family residential complexes within the City of Walla Walla.

Because the city of Walla Walla’s curbside recycling program only covers single family residential and multi-family units up to ten, Sustainable Walla Walla has developed a new program with Basin Disposal, which is now collecting recyclables on a weekly basis from businesses, organizations, and larger multi-family residential complexes in the city for a charge of $6 per month per 96 gallon container.

As with the City’s curbside program, BDI will provide the recycling container and will accept mixed recyclables .

The following clean recyclable items can be placed into the 96-gallon wheeled cart:
• Paper and mail
• Newspaper and advertising
• Phone Books
• Magazines and catalogs
• Cardboard and paperboard (cereal boxes, etc.)
• Milk and juice cartons
• Plastic bottles and jugs (no lids or caps)
• Aluminum cans
• Tin or steel cans

Unacceptable Items
• No glass (see drop off sites below)
• No food or soiled paper or boxes
• No paper towels, tissues, or napkins
• No plastic wrap, packaging, or grocery bags
• No garbage, no food waste
• No Styrofoam containers or pellets
• No plastic cups, plates, utensils, or take-out containers
• No light bulbs
• No toxic containers (antifreeze, oil, etc.)
• No lids or caps
• No window glass or mirrors
• No ceramics, dishes, glassware
• No yard clippings or leaves

TIPS
Rinse cans before placing them into the cart. Place loose, dry and clean paper only into the cart. Remove all lids. Cardboard boxes may be flattened to save space, but do not allow the pieces to become wedged in the container or it may not empty properly.

All recyclable items must fit in your cart. Any items on the ground will not be picked up. Items not prepared properly or not acceptable to the guidelines will be left in your cart.

Make sure that you place your recycling cart out for service on your agreed pickup day by 7:00 a.m. and keep the recycling cart at least three feet away from your trash receptacle and other obstacles such as vehicles.

GLASS
To dispose of glass bottles and jars only, the City of Walla Walla has implemented a modified glass recycling program. Special bright yellow containers can be found at the following locations:
• City Service Center: 55 Moore Street at the end of the cul-de-sac on Moore Street until 4:30 p.m.
• Sudbury Road Landfill: near the scale house, open until 6:00 p.m.
• Fire Station #1: 12th and Poplar Streets in the southwest corner of the parking lot off of Birch Street; or
• Fire Station #2: Wilbur Avenue and Tacoma Street in the parking lot adjacent to the basketball court.
